JAC has confirmed Australian pricing for its Hunter PHEV, with the range starting from $49,988 plus on-road costs when it arrives in showrooms from August 2026.
Available in two variants, the Hunter Pro and Hunter X, the plug-in hybrid ute is priced from $49,988 plus on-road costs for the Hunter Pro and $54,844 plus on-road costs for the Hunter X.
JAC says the Hunter has completed more than 100,000km of Australian testing ahead of launch, including towing, load carrying, hot-weather evaluation, and on- and off-road testing. The local development program was overseen by Australian vehicle dynamics engineer Michael Barber, with JAC stating the vehicle was tuned for Australian conditions.
“In Australia, respect isn’t given to a ute. It’s earned. Hunter has been built, tested and proven, to earn that respect,” said Ahmed Mahmoud, Managing Director of JAC Motors Australia. “This isn’t a trade-off between price and capability. It’s proof that premium performance, advanced hybrid technology and genuine capability don’t have to come with a premium price tag. We didn’t build Hunter to undercut the market. We built it to disrupt it and reset what Australians should expect from a PHEV ute.”
The Hunter’s plug-in hybrid system pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, producing 370Nm, with a 300Nm front electric motor and a 340Nm rear electric motor. Combined system figures are claimed at 360kW and 1010Nm. JAC quotes a combined fuel consumption figure of 1.6L/100km (NEDC), a 1005km combined driving range, and up to 100km of EV-only range. Both Hunter variants feature a 915kg payload and 3500kg braked towing capacity.

The higher-spec Hunter X adds equipment over the Hunter Pro including front and rear differential locks, black exterior styling upgrades, heated front seats, a four-way power passenger seat, 360-degree camera system, front parking sensors, power-folding mirrors, black roof rails, rear privacy glass, welcome puddle lamps, and a rear 220V accessory socket.
The Hunter range will also offer a small number of optional extras. A front and rear differential lock package is available for the Hunter Pro for an additional $1888, while Hunter X buyers can add a power sunroof for $1500.
Reservations for the JAC Hunter are now open, with vehicles expected to arrive at Australian dealerships from August 2026. The first 1000 customers who place a fully refundable $1000 deposit and take delivery will receive their choice of either a home EV charger or a $500 JAC Genuine Accessories voucher.
