Australia is the first market globally to launch the all-electric MGU9 EV, which goes on sale today, October 29, 2026.

Priced at $78,990 plus on-road costs, the MGU9 EV is powered by a 102.2kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and dual electric motors producing 325kW and 700Nm. It has all-wheel drive, a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 430km and a 0-100km/h time of 5.8 seconds.

Braked towing capacity is 3500kg, while payload is 685kg. The electric ute features four-wheel electronic air suspension, a tub capable of accommodating a standard pallet, and a 236-litre front boot.

Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability delivers up to 6.6kW through an external outlet, allowing owners to power compatible equipment away from mains electricity. AC charging is supported at up to 11kW, while DC fast charging peaks at 115kW. MG claims a 20 to 80 per cent charge takes around 42 minutes using a DC fast charger.

Cabin equipment includes dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 15W wireless phone charging and an eight-speaker JBL sound system. The driver’s seat is heated, ventilated and offers massage functionality, while the front passenger seat and steering wheel are heated. A hands-free automatic tailgate and 360-degree camera system are also fitted, and the ute has a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

“Electric vehicles have arrived in Australia, and with fuel prices putting pressure on household budgets, more families are looking at the benefits of electric driving,” said Dimitri Andreatidis, Marketing Director at MG Motor Australia. “But lower running costs alone aren’t enough. People need a vehicle that can handle everyday life and still be ready for a weekend away.

“Ute buyers have never been against electric. They’ve just been against compromise. The initial response to the MGU9 EV has been really encouraging, and we believe that’s because it brings the capability and versatility people expect from a ute, with the benefits of an all-electric powertrain. The MGU9 EV gives customers another option to consider, combining the capability they need with lower running costs.”
