Nissan has scrapped its next-generation Navara Warrior, redirecting development resources towards bringing its Navara Pro PHEV to market sooner.

Multiple reports confirm the D27 Warrior program has been shelved, despite a concept being unveiled in November 2025. The diesel off-roader had been expected to arrive before the end of 2026, but Nissan has no immediate plans to revive the project.

Instead, the brand is prioritising the Chinese-sourced Navara Pro PHEV, which is due in Australia in the second half of 2027.

Developed with Melbourne engineering firm Premcar, previous Warrior models received suspension, tyre and underbody protection upgrades to improve off-road capability. The latest version was expected to follow the same approach, but will not reach production.

Nissan’s broader relationship with Premcar remains active, with the company continuing to build Y62 Patrol Warriors and having helped tune the standard D27 Navara’s suspension for Australian conditions.

The Navara Pro PHEV pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and eight-speed automatic transmission. Preliminary outputs are 300kW and 800Nm, with a targeted 3500kg braked towing capacity and payload of up to 1000kg.

The hybrid will also feature mechanical four-wheel drive and differential-lock capability. Final Australian specifications and pricing are yet to be confirmed.

The cancellation leaves Nissan without a new-generation diesel Warrior in the immediate pipeline. Whether Premcar will develop a tougher version of the Navara Pro PHEV remains unconfirmed.
