GWM has pulled the covers off its updated Tank 300 ahead of its expected pre-sales launch on July 7 in China, with official images previewing a range of exterior and mechanical changes.

The front end has been revised with large ‘TANK’ lettering replacing the previous grille badge, while the redesigned bumper gains more prominent recovery points, although it remains unclear whether they are functional.

According to CarNewsChina (↗), the lower A-pillar trim has also been redesigned with additional mounting points that appear intended for accessories such as auxiliary lights or camera mounts.

Images also show a roof-mounted LiDAR unit, pointing to the possibility of updated driver assistance technology, although this has not been confirmed by GWM.

CarNewsChina reports the updated Tank 300 measures 4886mm long, 1984mm wide and 1927mm tall, riding on a 3010mm wheelbase. This makes it 126mm longer, 54mm wider and 24mm taller than the current model.

The report also notes mechanical revisions to the chassis, including a forward relocation of the front axle and a shortened front overhang, changes that improve the SUV’s approach angle and off-road geometry. The suspension layout is expected to carry over with a double-wishbone front setup and multi-link rear configuration.

Powertrain options are also expected to be expanded with the addition of a new Hi4-Z plug-in hybrid system alongside the existing Hi4-T setup. GWM says the Hi4-Z variant uses a 60kWh battery and is capable of up to 200km of electric driving range, although the testing cycle has not been disclosed.

CarNewsChina adds the Hi4-Z system is expected to share much of its hardware with the Tank 400 Hi4-Z, though full specifications for the Tank 300 version have not yet been confirmed.

Existing petrol and diesel engines are expected to carry over, including the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder and 3.0-litre turbo-petrol V6.

Pre-sales of the updated Tank 300 are scheduled to begin in China on July 7, with further market rollouts expected to follow its domestic launch.
