The Ford Ranger was once again the best-selling vehicle in Australia, with 5999 sales recorded in June.

Behind the Ranger, the Toyota HiLux was the second best-selling model with 5175 sales, followed by the BYD Sealion 7 (4730), Toyota RAV4 (4115) and BYD Shark (3398). Toyota was the top-selling brand for the month with 19,124 sales, narrowly ahead of BYD on 18,881. Ford followed with 9181 sales, ahead of Kia (8005) and Hyundai (7480).

Toyota’s 19,124 sales represented an 18 per cent increase on the previous month. The HiLux and RAV4 led the way, supported by improved model availability. The result also reflected the rollout of new grades, including the bZ4X Touring BEV, RAV4 plug-in hybrid and LandCruiser 300 Series performance hybrid.

Toyota’s 2026 sales have now passed 95,000 units, with the company lifting its full-year forecast to 230,000 vehicles after securing additional supply. It also said customer interest in the HiLux BEV continues to build, with more than 300 orders already placed.

The month also set a new record for the overall Australian new vehicle market, according to data released by the FCAI. VFACTS recorded 131,134 sales, up seven per cent on June 2025. Total sales from all sources reached 140,058, the highest monthly figure on record, as improved supply and renewed consumer confidence helped lift demand after a period of tighter household budgets driven by higher fuel and cost-of-living pressures.

Battery electric vehicles accounted for 23.3 per cent of total sales in June, up from 7.6 per cent a year earlier. EV market share has also climbed steadily through 2026, rising from 8.4 per cent in January to 23.4 per cent in June. China remained the largest source of vehicles at 46,592 sales (35.5 per cent), followed by Japan, Thailand, Korea and Germany.

Reflecting this, GWM recorded its strongest month in Australia in its 18-year history, delivering 6104 vehicles to finish seventh overall with a 4.7 per cent market share. The result was 20.5 per cent higher year-to-date and seven per cent above its previous monthly sales record.

The result was driven by demand across GWM’s petrol, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric range. Plug-in hybrids accounted for 21.0 per cent of the brand’s June sales mix, while hybrids made up 25.6 per cent. The Haval Jolion was its best-selling model with 2446 deliveries, followed by the H6 and H6 GT (1433 combined), Cannon and Cannon Alpha (1171), ORA 5 (275) and Tank 300 (258).
