Mitsubishi will reveal its new-generation Pajero on September 2, 2026, ahead of its arrival in Australian showrooms by the end of the year.

The fifth-generation SUV brings back the Pajero name after the previous model was discontinued in 2021, with the last Australian examples sold as run-out stock into 2022. Mitsubishi has not released any further details about the new Pajero ahead of the reveal.

The new model is expected to use a ladder-frame platform derived from the Triton, with bespoke suspension and bodywork. It will sit in the same broad segment as the Toyota LandCruiser Prado, Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X and Nissan Patrol.

The Pajero has a long history in Australia. Launched in 1982, it became one of Mitsubishi’s best-known models, combining off-road ability with everyday road manners. More than 3.25 million Pajeros were sold across four generations in more than 170 markets. The model also built a strong motorsport record, entering the Dakar Rally in 1983 and taking 12 overall victories, including seven in a row.

In Australia, the Pajero was phased out in 2021, leaving the smaller Pajero Sport as Mitsubishi’s only remaining model carrying the name.

The new Pajero will return to a much more competitive 4×4 SUV market, with more details expected when it is unveiled on September 2.
