Diesel power returns to LDV D90 as new flagship joins range

Diesel power has returned to the LDV D90 seven-seat SUV range after a two-year absence, with the revised line-up growing from three to five variants.

The D90 diesel uses the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel as the new-gen LDV Terron 9 and updated LDV T60, producing 163kW and 520Nm. It’s available in Executive and Luxe grades, with pricing starting at $54,200 drive-away for the Executive and $58,937 for the new flagship. That’s a small step up on the previous D90 diesel, which used a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel producing 160kW and 480Nm.

The diesel D90 is available exclusively with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Its four-wheel-drive system features shift-on-the-fly functionality for changing between two- and four-wheel drive. The return of diesel also brings a 3500kg braked towing capacity, compared with up to 3000kg for petrol-powered D90 models. Fuel consumption is rated at 8.1L/100km on the ADR 81/02 laboratory test cycle.

Petrol power remains available, with the D90 retaining its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 184kW and 410Nm. Petrol models are available in both 2WD and 4WD and are also fitted with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. The petrol range gets Normal, Sport and Eco driving modes, while fuel consumption is rated at 9.4L/100km for the 4WD variant.

The diesel is available in Executive and Luxe grades, while petrol power is offered in Mode 2WD, Executive 2WD and Executive 4WD variants. The Luxe adds a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, JBL premium audio, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, 20-inch alloy wheels with Continental tyres, front and rear differential locks and a power tailgate with kick sensor.

Manufacturer’s recommended drive-away pricing starts at $51,568 for the D90 Executive Petrol 4WD for private buyers and $48,990 for ABN holders. The D90 Executive Diesel 4WD is priced at $54,200 drive-away for private buyers and $51,490 for ABN holders, while the D90 Luxe Diesel 4WD flagship costs $58,937 and $55,990 respectively. “Customers have been asking for the return of diesel power to the LDV D90 ever since it was paused from our line-up two years ago,” said Dinesh Chinnappa, the General Manager of LDV Australia. “Customers have also been asking for a top-tier model, which is why we have introduced the LDV D90 LUXE diesel.

“With the revised LDV D90 range we are offering a wider range of price points and giving customers the choice of petrol or diesel power.”

Five exterior colours are available: Natural White, Concrete Grey, Spruce Green, Metal Black and Metal Ash. Natural White is standard, while premium paint adds $500 and a two-tone finish with a black roof adds $2000.

The D90 is covered by a seven-year/200,000km warranty and five years of complimentary 24-hour roadside assistance with unlimited kilometres. Petrol models require their first service at six months or 5000km, followed by 12-month/15,000km intervals. Diesel models have 12-month/20,000km service intervals.
